The impossibly infectious "Marathon" chronicles some of the uncertain moments they encountered on their journey, and is one of the sweetest and most instantly endearing songs I've heard in a long time. Look for this one on an upcoming 7" release on Underwater Peoples, and in the meantime, grab the band's debut 7" single, out in July on Woodsman's label, Firetalk. premiere: Candy Claws | "Silent Time of Earth"

"Each song on Hidden Lands contains a sample of every other song on the album." Sounds like a potentially ill-advised gimmick regarding the new record from Fort Collins, Colorado's Candy Claws, but repeat listens to the glowing Hidden Lands reveal an incredibly lush, enveloping soundtrack for warm summer nights. If the swirling, shuffling dreamscape "Silent Time of Earth" sounds like something created by mystical woodland creatures, I think that was the intent: the record is "a musical companion to Robert Ketchum's The Secret Life of the Forest" (the group wrote the lyrics by running selections from the book through Translation Party). You're going to want to break out the headphones for this one.

mp3: new Bodies of Water

Bodies of Water are currently working on their highly-anticipated new full-length in their hometown of Los Angeles, and frontwoman/Music Go Music mastermind Meredith Metcalf sent us a few tracks to preview. She says:

"...instead of waiting till the whole record is done, we thought it'd be fun to record little groups of 3 or 4 songs at a time so people can listen as we finished them..."

All three tracks certainly bode very well for the new record, but the beautiful and expansive "Rise Up, Careful" is the standout, bolstered by Meredith's moving vocals and the addition of Brian Walsh on smooth sax:
